Apple a day keeps the PC away…

APPLE vs PC

I know, I am a apple guy. I look at PC’s and get a knot in my stomach. But the truth is I used to love PC. I actually had a Sony Vaio Laptop in college. It was great…until it died. But it was so great until then. So how did I become such a Apple guy….

1. College: Working with the college newspaper and also with photography, Apple was where it is at. In fact every illustration/publication/media/design stuff all of it was done on an Apple. I just got used to how they work and the way apple manages files and programs. Teaching now I use Apple software that is invaluable to our film class and projects. I never had problems with the Apple computers. Now the College Yearbook computers had to be PC because of the yearbook company we used… I had tons of problems.Reason: Cheap Windows PC’s are horrible. Get what you paid for. If we had better PC computers then I might not have as many complaints. (this was before mac’s were able to run PC programs on BootCamp, I wish we had that back then)

2. Quality: You get what you pay for. Try taking a $500 PC and make a movie with out it crashing. Yeah. It stinks. Now if you pay 3000 for some fancy Alien Hardware PC your going to have great results. Or you run into the problem with your parts to you computer fail. Modem goes out, memory chip, USB fails, all of these because its made by the cheapest non quality controlled company. Again, you get what you pay for.

3. Style & Ease: For me Apple is easy. Each software program works with each other, they all make glorious music with each other. (and photos and movies) They look good. You have to stare at the thing all day long, each one of those icons and lights…. wouldn’t you rather look at something atheistically pleasing than ugly.

4. Company: Windows is a software company, make good software, but the companies that make the hardware they are at the fault most of the time. APPLE doesn’t have or use this excuse. They are the software, hardware, everywhere top quality company. Yes they make mistakes, and sometimes they do have problems… Mobile Me came out before it was truly ready. But if you have a problem they help you out. I cannot count the number of times I have called apple way past some warranty to get help and they say “your out of warranty on this product”. But the next thing they say, “but how can we help you!”. Just this past week I took my MacPro laptop in to look at the battery. They found that the battery was bad… (it happens). But I was out of the complementary 1 year warranty. Instead of making me send my computer away or charging me $150 bucks, they said, “its ok, we will fix it anyways.” I LOVE THAT. I walk out with a new battery! What company does that these days? Seriously.

5. Everything: I shoot photos; manage with Aperture, edit with CS4 (non apple product, but apple has made it work great with Aperture), post previews online for clients using the computer, type up PDFs and other memos, my contact list for photography syncs with my iphone, same with email, calender and so much more. IT all works together and like a happy family. I LOVE IT. Programs are design to work with the computers, and since they make the computers too, each computer meets the requirements.

Is it worth it to buy a mac, yes it is.

But could you buy a PC and be happy… maybe, however you will need to spend just as much as you would for a mac, or more, and you still wouldn’t get the company care, compatibility of programs, or aesthetics that a mac provides. Macs are turnkey computers designed to work and do it in visually impressive way. And I like their commercials better…

I am a mac.

Let me know if you are a mac or pc or both…. and why… just curious.
