Chicken vs Penguin

So a long time ago I saw this competition that Nikon was having for video. The idea, Nikon using their new D-SLR’s is trying to get into the video business too. Being that I am a lover of all things Nikon I am excited about the idea. I also was able to use the competition for a teaching lesson at the school where I teach. I actually teach Film, (video production) to high school students. So combining my love to the photography side of Nikon with the teachable aspect of the Film side My students had the following assignment,  watch and critique a series of the videos highlighted on the Nikon Website. It was a lot of fun for them to see that not everyone who claims to be a “film maker” is actually good. There were a few that stood out as excelent videos.  One of my favorites and also the one that won the competition was entitled “Chicken vs Penguin” by Marko Slavnic, a University of Texas Student. I really love this film. It is very simple and close to one of the projects that I have my students actually do in our class. I was thinking about this film to show to some students and thought it had some relevance here too. As I tell my students Film Making and Photography go hand in hand. Your telling a story and trying to get as  much striking detail into every precious moment you have with the audience. Either its in a 5 min film or a few photographs. Anyways I decided to share this video via vimeo to the rest of the world, so if you missed it the first time here it is.
